Editing Day 2

Me and Tahir were controling most the editing as we had general knowledge and somewhat knowledge of editing in the past.

Tahir used our idea of having a quick opening sequence and made a rough draft edit of the video.
We used Final Cut Pro as we had more knowledge of using this software for the opening sequence.
We both sat down and edited the first few seconds of the music video. We then brough the opening sequence to college.
We showed our teachers and peers and gained relevant feedback which will then be of benefit to us. We knew that this was only a rough copy just to show of some of our ideas on screen.

We know that we will have a much better final copy!

Editing Day 1

Our whole group sat down together and planned all the editing. As I was particularly keen on adding a 'out of the box' type of editing and flow to the music video, I showed the group 'urban' music videos which had specific editing techniques which appealed to me.

I had one main intention behind my head; "to make a music video which is unique and has a different touch to it". We watched quite a few more music videos together so we were sure that everyone was on the same boat; this meaning that everyone would be happy with the editing and specific parts of the editing. We all came to mutual agreements with specific techniques we propose to use.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EqK9cDBlsM

Main elements and editing techniques which appealed to me from this music video was the fast cuts and movie flaires used within the video. I also liked the different angles used and how a minor narrative is also used to help connote some of the messages given out by the artist.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ODblkqpW7o

Main elements and editing techniques which appealed to me from this music video was the camera movement and the typography. It came across very intresting and appealing the way the camera moves around and gives it the 'urban' effect to it. I loved the fact that the typography was used to stress specific words.

Main elements and editing techniques which appealed to me from this music video was the camera movement, the typography, as well as the editing. The typography in this video causes a wow responce from the audience. However, I realised this is very ambitious to use in our music video as it would take ages to render. I loved the slow and quick cuts and other transitions used. It was visually appealing; the use of the colour correction.

Camera Issues Day 4 Filming

We faced camera issues today. As a group we have faced many obstacles and have overcome many. Today problem was that the camera were booked out fully meaning no cameras were left for our group to use.
This meant we had a great deal of problem, this is as we now had one less day to film and we had a lot of filming still to do. After speaking to the media technicians, they told us that the cameras are all taken by students and will be returned on 12/11/12.
Due to cameras being all booked, we had to move to plan b and discussed with our teacher the best possible solution to overcome this. We came to a decision to film after the deadline but early that week as the cameras are going to be returned on Monday. However, we want to ensure we can get as much as filming possible as soon as we lay our hands on any camera.

Filming Day 4

We had a final session of filming. This was just to gather some of our actors and do extra footage for backup reasons.
We wanted to stay well guarded and prepared incase we did not have enough footage or if we did not like each footage.
We also did random shots which we propose to use for effect and to keep the music video intresting. We recorded birds and other views of buildings and skyline types so we could add it to our music video.
We did shots on the way from college as well as in Stratford.

Filming Day 3

We filmed a few shots in college and around college. We did this as we did not take our opportunities to film in our other location (Ilford) which we proposed to do so. All our main actors were in college which was an excelent opportunity. This meant that we could take varies shots and film an argument in different parts of the college. We ensured that we chose locations within the college which seemed believable and seemed like a home or other istitution rather than a college.

We also did a behind the scene footage which we propose to use later on and not within the music video itself.

Filming Day 2

Today we filmed in stratford, E15 and we planned to film in Ilford, IG1.
Our original plan to film in stratford went ahead and we did our opening scenes and filmed the skyscrapers as well as other random shots to use later on for specific effects. We did our opening sequences in Stratford and played around with specific blurs to connote specific messages.
We did not however have all our actors which delayed some of the filming, thus the reason we concentrated on filming the background and surroundings.
We wanted to go to Ilford after these shots to meet up with our other actors at our filming scene, however a few problems came across, the fact the actors had work meant that we could not do the shots with the actors.

Our ilford scene was going to be the argument scene where we shoot the argument between the 2 actors to show in the music video an argument scene which we will sync with our music video.
We went to Stratford and Ilford to film the next stage of the music video. We left straight from lesson and went to our location. I personally found our location in stratford. The fact the weather was great meaning it was very brigh and sunny meant that we could have good shots of the performance as well as the surrounding. . Once we got on to our rooftop, we started preparing the camera and tripod and the actors got themselfs ready as well. Once we were prepared, everyone got into position and we started filming. We done a variety of shots keeping editing in mind at all times. We had to ensure that we knew what kind of editing techniques we propose to use in specific shots. We done our first session of filming in Stratford and had a little break.
We filmed many shots, even if we did not propse to use them in our final creation of the music video. We did this so that we have backup footage incase we dont prefer one shot we could use our extra footage to replace the footage disliked.

After this long and tiring session of filming we all had a lunch break and got something to eat. After this we made our way to our Ilford location. As the stratford scene took longer then expected, we went quite late to our Ilford location and were not allowed to film there at the time as the location was being used for other purposes. This meant our filming was was delayed for another day.

Filming Day 1

Today after a long antisipated wait we filmed our first few shots. We booked our college studio and college cameras to start filming. All our group members met outside the studio at 10.10am. This session was for our main female actor, 'Fahmida' who was playing 'Tulisa' in our music video. We did a variety of shots in the studio, Fahmida was wearin g a blue/terquoise dress just how many female actors including Tulisa would.

Actor costume

For our main photoshoot we planed for our actors to be dressed with red, black and turquoise.
As a group we purposely kept the stereotypical N Dubz genre. This is to the extent of the actors wearing mainly bright coloured clothing with fazer and Dappy's tracksuits being of same brand and similar look. The colours however differ, our actor playing Fazers role is wearing red and our actor playing Dappys role wearing black. We looked at many of the other original photoshoots, album covers and flyers of N Dubz to gather mental notes on the dress codes and styles of n dubz. We ensured to stick with the typical conventional n dubz look.

Group Meeting & Filming Decisions

As a group we held a meeting. The initial aim and purpose behind this meeting was to discuss ideas and the processes we would take. We initially wanted to start filming during the holidays, however due to the holidays we could not contact some of our actors and we could not get permission for a studio we needed during the holidays.

We held a meeting to get back on track due to the interruption of the holidays and decided that the first shoot will be in the college studios. We spoke to the media technicians regarding availability times and found a spot that had not already been taken and where each group member was available to film. We decided to film on Thursday 8th November 2012 for the studio shoot during the afternoon. We have our actor ready for this particular shoot.

This session for recording is planned to get our female actor to mime her part. We needed these shots and plan to add effects. We had initial ideas set out before hand regarding all the shots we propose to use and how we would later add effects. We want to use a green screen also so we could add in our own backgrounds and effects behind our actor.

We have also decided that our next set of filming will take place on a Thursday after college time as our location is not within the college. We decided to meet up after college with our filming equipment and actors so that we can all make our way there together causing no delays or possible problems.

Pre Production task - Recce

StudioThe recce serves a purpose to give us a taste of the atmosphere where we intend to film our final music video. The recce will be used to figure out best filming techniques, best possible camera shots we can get, best views. We will have to look at potential hazards and issues, such as safety, lighting sound - diagetic & non - diagetic etc. We used this opportunity to create and draw up ideas for our music video.

Our first locations is a studio within college. This location was chosen for the acting part in our music video. The only actor in this setting is Fahmida. We propose to use both black and white backdrops for certain close ups and mid shots, we then intend to add specific effects onto these shots using either “Final Cut Pro” or “Adobe After Effects”. We intend to add background effects and lighting to make the shots visually appealing and attractive as well as some color correction (However this will be discussed later). Our actors will be miming the music and certain vocals will be lipped out and synced with the music. The advantage of this location is that we do not have to worry about the natural lighting nor sound; this is as we will adjust the lighting to our comfort and there will not be any wind or any other diagetic sound which could play or tamper with the sound, additionally we do intend to use music so sound will not be a major issue.
There are many problems possible to arise when filming outdoors such as rain etc. However, problems such as weather or getting permission for the location will not be a big issue as we will be indoors meaning the weather will not affect us. Also as we will be getting permission from college for coursework purposes; we are confident of using our ‘Location Release Form’ to get the permission needed. Additionally we will not have to worry about other people interrupting or accidentally or without realizing being in the shot; this is as only our filming crew and actors will be in the studio and in the shots they need to be. Overall no additional natural noise or lighting will affect us as we will add these on ourselves without any interruptions and problems.

Other priorities include the fact that as a group; We need to do a risk chec in case any of our crew members and actors have any medical conditions or are epileptic as lighting could affect their health and condition during and or after filming. We need to ensure there are no dangerous items lying around in case anyone trips or injures themselves on equipment’s such as camera wiring etc. As a group we have to be technically capable of using the equipment and ensure we don’t damage or break any equipment as they are very expensive.

Living Room

Our second location is a lounge located in Ilford. We will be using this location for our second narrative where the argument will happen. We wanted to depict a home type situation where 2 people are arguing about pregnancy and this location allowed us to connote that situation. As it is indoors, sounds will not affect the recording especially the sound of wind which can alter the sound of recording during playback. We have already used our release forms to get permission to record there and this has already been agreed and signed for. The lighting will be edited using “Adobe After Effects” for visual effects engaging the audience to watch the entire video. The location will consist of home furniture such as sofas and tables to give it a home type feel emphasizing on a normal residence. We believe this location adds to realism and professionalism as well as helps the story of the narrative become clear.

Rooftop

Our Main location and final location where we want to do our main parts of the filming is in the rooftop which we discovered in Stratford E15. We decided to choose the rooftop as is connotes freedom and sense of being open. The song is about pregnancy and the rooftop will highlight freedom for the male. Additionally, many young people like to be free and admit to make mistake.  We believe this location represents this. We could possible face problems Diegetic wind sounds will affect the recording but this will be eliminated using our editing software. Release forms will be used to gain access to this location which will be taken of.

There will be some precautions to consider in mind as being on the rooftop can be very dangerous. We will ensure that the filming will take place at the centre of the rooftop and that all crew members stay of the edge. Depending on weather, the atmosphere and surroundings will be edited to comfort however natural lighting will come in use for certain aspects of the shoot. However there were already many safety barriers covering the rooftop making it safer and feel safer mentally for the crew.

There is a beautiful view from this rooftop and many buiildings can be seen. The buildings in the surroundings allows the audience to depict a sense of making a choice and being alone thinking. This adds to the idelogy of being in a bad situation and making a choice for his future. As the video will be shooted on top of a building, the lighting could affect the scenary depending on weather therefore to shoot in the evening will be a better choice as there is minimum amount of light yet also adds to the idea of the male needing time to think and this usually happens in the evening.

Pre Production Task - Risk Assesment

Working together as a group, we had to produce risk assessments for all our 3 locations.
The risk assessments were made so that we could eliminate any possible risks, hazards or potential danger.

This included safety hazards that would affect us and the actors for the music videos

This is our completed risk assessments that the group produced on all 3 of our locations:

Pre Production Tasks - Release Forms

We had to produce release forms so that we could get permission from senior members to use thier property, such as the Sheesha Lounge, the Rooftop and the Studio we propose to use in our music video. We created a template and handed it out to the main people we needed to sign the forms.

We had to acquire permission to use these settings as some settings are not legally allowed to be used for various reasons. We completed this task by contacting the people we needed to and we gave them the release forms to sign and know exactly what they are signing.
The release forms required names, addresses contact details as well as terms.

Actors/Performers for music video

We obviously needed actors to play roles in our music video.

As a group for our music video, we as a group decided to get people from the performing arts to perform in our music video. As we were short on time, we did not hold any auditions and instead spoke directly to them. We chose people who look like they could represent the original artists of N Dubz.

We also ask our friends if they would like to take part in our music video.

We initially had plans to hold auditions where the performing arts students can come in and perform in front of us so that we can select the correct actors. The other member of the group created a poster to promote our idea and recruit the actors we require for our music video. He used Adobe Photoshop to create the poster and used vibrant colors which would stand out from others and catch the eyes of performing arts student.

We printed 3 posters out using a color printer with good quality and gave 2 of them to the performing arts office and hung up the 3rd one ourselves where the students walk by. We provided our email address we created for the group and not our personal email addresses. We are currently waiting for the replies of the 2 males and have already found a female to take part.

Research and Planning - Prezi

I started My Prezi which was used to present my planning and the progress and process of how we worked together as a group and individually.

I created a Prezi which is basically a presentation using the Prezi website (www.prezi.com).

My Prezi was used to show answers to specific questions. I answered the questions to give an insight in the process of the stages I had to go through. I discussed how I had a few personal time management issues and how I overcame these obstacles. Finally I evaluated my groups work and progress as a whole as well as my personal progress.

Lyrics of Song ( N Dubz - Should Of Put Something On)

N Dubz - Should Of Put Something On

Lyrics:

Eyeaahhhhhh
Owoooooeee

You know we ain't cool with one another
You don't deserve to decide when I'm gonna be a papa (Never)
However much I hate you think I'm gonna sit around
And watch the little one suffer (NO)
I ain't gonna lie I'm always behind when you get on all 4's
But when your belly popped out you said it was my fault,
You told me I shoulda put something on

You weren't sayin' shit wen I was lickin on your pelvis
Now your tryna act up saying that I'm selfish
I ain't ready for no pikni I can't help it
And it's too late to say I should of worn a helmet
I would love to be the perfect dad
I would love to give my kids everything I never had (straight)
All I'm tryna say is now ain't the time
So if you don't wanna listen it's best I just leave

Who do you think you are I ain't gettin rid of shit
This is a part of me don't blame me, you should of put something on,
(but I'm just a man, you know how we are,
I don't wanna be involved it's not my fault)
It's like you thinking about yourself,
It's only you you you and noone else,
So take responsibility, you should of put something on,
So who do you think you are I ain't getting rid of shit,
Don't get this, don't blame me, you shoulda put something

Something let me tell you bout something,
Recognise you can't tell me nothing but one thing boy you got my blood pumping,
I'm ragin at you, you got me so damn angry,
Your selfish and ruthless so useless excuses mean nothing to me,
This child is a part of me,
You can't begin to understand so while it's living and growing inside,
But you're just a man, you don't understand,
Get outta my(No) get outta my(No) get outta my face my face my face.

Who do you think you are I ain't getting rid of shit
This is a part of me don't blame me, you should of put something on,
(but I'm just a man, you know how we are,
I don't wanna be involved it's not my fault)
It's like you thinking about yourself,
It's only you you you and no1 else,
So take responsibility, you should of put something on,
So who do you think you are I ain't getting rid of shit,
Don't get this, don't blame me you should of put something

I feel for you but you knew the deal
(you was lying wen you said you was on the pill)
I have to be real with you
I think we both know that the both of us ain't got much doe
I'm afraid I can't be involved,

It's just the same old selfishness with you
Don't pretend your understanding
It's a little too late to act confused
Cause I know what I'm gonna do do do do do
Who do you think you are?

Who do you think you are I ain't getting rid of shit
This is a part of me don't blame me, you should of put something on,
(but I'm just a man, you know how we are,
I don't wanna be involved it's not my fault)
It's like you thinking about yourself, it's only you you you and no one else,
So take responsibility, you shoulda put something on,
So who do you think you are I ain't getting rid of shit,
Don't get this, don't blame me you should of put something on

Filming Practice

We were given a camera as a group for a purpose to practice blurs.
We had to tamper with the focus of the cameras and do specific desired shots.
As a group we went around college and took specific shots. We had to keep in mind that we do specific focuses on subjects and off subjects. Also another example of where we used this effect was when we were focusing on a bottle. The bottle was placed closer towards the camera and we used the depth of field to blur out the background and only focus on the bottle placed towards the front. We tried changing it around and focused on the background and blurred out the bottle.

We gained experience through this of using blurs and focuses to connote specific messages.

Experimenting 'Final Cut Pro'

As a group we used the editing suite provided in college to experiment with Final Cut Pro.
This is a professional editing software and we used a Mac Book Pro machine as this processes very fast compared to a normal computer.

We had a sequence of clips and we had to use effects, transitions and sound to make the sequence into a short narrative. We were given clips from a movie and had to put them together and also edit them. We practiced on different editing tools such as cropping as we would need to do this is our own music videos for any footage that is not required. The following day, we went back to the editing suite and this time tried out different visual effects such as adding captions but in an interesting fashions such as having it fade in with designs around it. We also tried out other visual effects such as fade in and out on the different clips.
Overall this editing session was very useful as it was like a refresh on how to use the program as we had already used it before.

We did this successfully and showed our peers and gathered the feedback we recieved.

Pre Production Task - Story Board Development

After doing our treatment, we had to involve in Pre Production tasks. We  created a story board on paper regarding our music video.

As a group we decided to keep our heads together and let the ideas flow.
We split our ideas up into scenes and decided the narrative and the acting style in each scene...
Once our treatment was approved we had to do some pre production tasks which were creating a storyboard, recce, risk assessments, production schedule and release forms. We had to allocate and agree on production team roles. As a group we all input ideas and one member of our group carried this out on paper.

The recce was split and the other two members shared the work for that and completed that. I had also had some participation in producing the recce. I added all the images which were provided by the group members on the recce and also had some involvement in talking about the locations.

Creating a promotional Leaflet/Flyer

I personally decided to create a leaflet/ flyer which was/is given to 'The Performing Arts' department in college.
I decided that we needed to promote our idea and recruit actors for our music video.
I used Adobe Photoshop to create the flyer and used 'exotic' and bright colors which would hopefully stand out and catch the eyes of 'actors'.
We printed of 3 copies of the leaflet using full quality colored printers. We gave two copies of the leaflet to 'The performing Arts' department and we hung one out so people could see as they walked by.
We are currently waiting for 'actors' to contact us regarding the roles in the music video.

The leaflet I created;
